Boko Haram |
As always, today’s news in Nigeria is that of the
killing of the Benue people by “suspected” “Fulani-herdsmen” — a killing which
has been on-going since the very year Buhari became Nigeria’s President but
which, unfortunately, has not only been always ignored, ignored and ignored by
Buhari’s government but also by so many wicked Nigerian citizens. They
don’t give a damn because after-all their loved ones are usually not among
those being killed! Although the Jihadists started focusing their
attention on the Benue people since last year, these killings, as you can learn
from my old article, WHY IS BOKO HARAM STILL KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE
UNDER BUHARI’S GOVERNMENT?, has been on-going (in other states)
long before then. I got tired of documenting the killings because the jihadists
are doing it almost every day.
When, recently, courageous Senator Abaribe of Abia
State called Buhari an “incompetent” president over the latter’s lie that these
Jihadists are “Muammar Gaddafi’s men”, he was shouted down by northern senators(with
all the Eastern and South-South senators present looking like morons!),
including Senate President Bukola Saraki who mandated him to “apologise”
immediately.
Yet, as we can recall, it was the same kind of
statement Buhari made in October 2014, during Jonathan’s era, when he stated
categorically that Niger Delta people, in fact, stated the menace! (See my
article above). As I wrote:
“Buhari, who then spoke
on a Liberty Radio programme, accused Jonathan’s government of killing and destroying houses belonging to Boko Haram
members while the Niger Delta
militants got special treatment. He said that unlike the “special treatment” given to the Niger Delta militants
by the federal government, the Boko
Haram members were being killed and their houses demolished by the government. While accusing Jonathan
of failing from the beginning to
address the security situation in the country, Buhari said he had never been in support of the state of emergency in
Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, and
shockingly, according to Buhari, “what is responsible for the security
situation in the country is caused by the activities of Niger Delta militants.”
“Can we then see the reason why he is now hunting
for the Niger Deltans while almost completely ignoring the murderous activities
of his Boko Haram brothers in the North-East? My February piece on this can be
viewed here:
“And on his current hunting for the blood of the
Niger Deltans, see this:http://www.thetrentonline.com/buhari-declares-war-on-south-south-militants-orders-air-bombing-of-creeks
“So far, all the structures put in place by
Jonathan to tackle the terrorists—the military checkpoints and the rest—have
been dismantled by Buhari, and Boko Haram terrorists now move freely in the
North East, destroying lives just as they want. See this also:http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/186492-how-buharis-slow-pace-is-affecting-the-war-against-boko-haram.html”.
Is it a surprise, then, to see the
same Buhari who also kicked against amnesty for Niger Delta militants then now
advocating for the same amnesty for his jihadist brethren?
A country founded on lies and currently populated
by liars, usually, the lying newspapers would attribute these killings to
“suspected Fulani-herdsmen” even though everybody knows who these killers are.
In fact, sincerely speaking, only today have I heard of the word “Jihadists”
pronounced—certainly because of the two priests killed! As we read partly
from Punch:
Confirming the attack on the church, The Director
of Communications, Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, Rev. Father Moses Iorapuu,
said, “Rev. Father Joseph Gor and Rev. Father Felix Tyolaha have been killed in
the deadly attack by herdsmen/Jihadists early today (Tuesday) in St. Ignatius
Quasi parish in Ukpor-Mbalom in Mbalom village.”
Iorapuu, who stated that the herdsmen also burnt down homes, destroyed
foodstuffs, said, “to go for the priests means total destruction of everything
we stand for and believe in as a people.”
“The police seem to know nothing of the attacks which have been going on
in other villages in Benue State since the Anti-Open Grazing Law came into
effect last year.
What makes today’s case different, however, is that
two Catholic priests are among the dead.
“Many people are asking why the international
community has remained silent over the massacre of Benue citizens.
“The answer is simple: It has been the goal of the Jihadists to conquer
Benue and Tiv people who resisted their advance into the Middle Belt and the
Eastern part of Nigeria since 1804; they are people who rejected Islam and
fought for the unification of Nigeria in the civil war of 1967 – 1970.”
According to the Catholic spokesman, the people of Eastern Nigeria
have little sympathy for Benue people who fought on the side of Nigeria, adding
that the Muslim North is enjoying a sweet revenge overshadowed by an
insensitive regime.
He noted there were over 170,000 internally displaced persons before the
Naka invasion, adding that with the situation on the ground in Mbalom, Benue
would be flooded with thousands more.
“What cannot be said at this point is the consequences of the death of
missionaries in the killings that have been ignored by the government for
over a year.
“The Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, which is one of the largest dioceses
in Nigeria, has been active in providing relief materials, including education
and skills acquisition lessons, to victims of the attacks,” he added.
Our correspondents reported that there was apprehension in Makurdi, the
capital of Benue State.
The situation reportedly became tense when the remains of the two Rev.
Fathers were brought to St. Theresa Catholic Hospital morgue, High Level,
Makurdi.
Following the tense atmosphere in the area, leaders of Wurukum and
Wadatta markets in the capital city were forced to close the market while
traders rushed out of the area for fear of breakdown of law and order.

17 others inside church
The killings will not stop. It will continue.
