Hundreds of thousands rally in Rome against sodomy

Hundreds of thousands of Italians gathered in Rome on Saturday, June 20, to demonstrate against the imposition of ‘gender ideology’ in schools and to condemn an Italian Senate bill that proposes to give same-sex partners equivalent rights as married couples. This is a reaction to Prime Minister Matteo Renzi who tries to push a civil union bill through parliament.

Although comprised mainly of Catholics, other religious groups also took part, including the so-called Evangelicals, the Muslims, and Jews. Holding aloft banners reading “The family will save the world" and "Let's defend our children", a sea of people crammed into the San Giovanni square near the Italian capital's historic centre to support family values. The square, which can hold an estimated 300,000 people, was overflowing with the young, elderly and parents with toddlers, an AFP photographer said, with many more demonstrators spilling into nearby streets. Organisers for their part said as many as one million people showed up for the pro-marriage rally, including about 100 members of Parliament. The president of the Vatican's Pontifical Council on the Family, Abp. Vincenzo Paglia, was also present and offered a special blessing for the crowd.

“We rally to defend our children from gender theory introduced in the schools, that damages the innocence and the healthy development of children, to defend the natural family from the assault to which it is constantly subjected by our Parliament, to defend the right of parents to educate their children, and to promote the right of every child to grow up with a father and a mother,” rally organizer and long-time Italian pro-family activist Toni Brandi told journalists.

Participants taking part in what organizers called a “family day” packed to overflowing the Piazza San Giovanni in front of the St. John Lateran Basilica.

"We are a million," organizers said from the stage, reported Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera. While Zenit in Italian has reported a million demonstrators, other news sources such as Breitbart puts the number at half a million, while mainstream media puts the number even lower. Event organizer and Catholic leader Kiko Argüello of the Neocatechumenal Way believes there were even more than a million.

The grassroots-led rally is all the more remarkable in its overwhelming numbers in that it was announced at the beginning of June and received no prior media attention. By Sunday, reports of the rally became front page news in all of Italy’s major newspapers. The rally is even more remarkable in that a similar rally held last year only drew about 600 people. 

Participants, many of them families with children, held banners that stated: “The family will save the world" and "Let's defend our children.” “No to gender ideology, no to ideological colonization of our children in the schools, no to the [Senate] bill Cirinnà and gay ‘marriage,’” “The natural family alone is the necessary and fundamental cell of society.”

"In my children's schools they are talking about families made up of two fathers or two mothers, without asking parents' permission," said 41-year old doctor Giuseppe Ripa, adding: "It's dangerous and wrong."

Fellow protester Piero Uroda, a 78-year-old pharmacist, said it was “not honest to say these things to the very young, it's not like they are students who can debate these ideas.”

“I don't want gay marriage or gay adoption, the natural family is like ours,” he said, pointing to his relatives gathered around.

The protest comes as the Italian senate examines a civil union bill, which Renzi wants to see go to a vote in the coming weeks, with the aim of legislation being enacted before the end of July.

The call for Italy to keep pace with its western European neighbours on the issue has grown stronger since Ireland voted overwhelmingly in favour of gay “marriage” last month.

While a survey published by Italian daily La Stampa at the end of May found that 51 percent of voters would support gay “marriage”, protesters in Rome said the state should stop trying to interfere in sexual or gender education.

“We are asking for families based on marriage be respected, and stressing the central role parents play. We forcefully reject the attempt to sneak into the curriculum projects which aim to destroy children’s sexual identities,” said Massimo Gandolfini, spokesman for the “Defend our children!” committee.

There were both cries of support and derision from the political sphere. Matteo Salvini, rising star on the far right and head of the Northern League party, sent a Facebook “hug for all the mummies and daddies protesting peacefully in Rome to defend their children’s future.”

Vincenzo Brana, head of the long-standing Arcigay gay rights association in Bologna, was quick to point out that “today is World Refugee Day”, with hundreds of thousands of migrants in Italy facing an uncertain future.

Their problems “are an urgent issue which concerns us all. Those who take to the streets to talk of other things show they are living on another planet, and I would recommend leaving them on that planet alone.”

Toni Brandi told LifeSiteNews that despite Francis’ so-called “condemnation” of gender ideology, only a handful of Catholic bishops lent their support to the rally.

Organizers say the event was a total success. “The Piazza was filled with light and truth, without anything homophobic or discriminatory. The families of Italy have come with enormous sacrifices to Rome and have raised their voice to be heard,” the organizers stated in a press release after the event.

“It was a large group of people and families in defence of the family, moved by love for our children,” said Mario Adinolfi, director of La Croce and founder of “Voglio la Mamma” [I need Mama].

Concluded organizers: “It was a family day with a million smiling faces, all crammed, crowded together, under the sun and in the rain, without losing their smiles. Young and old parents, grandparents and grandchildren, children of all ages, even toddlers in prams, all say in unison to those who work in those hallowed halls of power: ‘Hey, we are here! You cannot ignore us!!!’”

It should be noted that following Francis’ support of sodomy, many countries—particularly since 2013—have been “encouraged” to legalise same-sex “marriage”. In 2013, Francis 1, when asked by a journalist about the Vatican’s alleged “gay lobby”, answered that while a lobby might be an issue, he does not have any problem with the inclination to homosexuality itself: “If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?” he said. Since then, Francis 1 has appointed a number of homosexuals to important positions of authority in the Catholic Church.  At the end of the past 2 years, 2013, the globally renowned LGBT-news magazine Advocate picked Francis 1 as Personality of the Year for his liberal stance concerning homosexuals.

Porn: sexual cannibalism

When guys have been looking at porn for a long time, it’s a tough habit to break. And when you’re an anti-porn speaker (as I am), it’s tough figure out how to make people quit a habit that has deeply rewired their brain and reshaped their attractions, using just words. So one of the things I’ve tried to do is illustrate just how evil porn is, by calling it what it is.

Porn is, at its root, sexual cannibalism.

Think about it. Sex is supposed to be two people unashamedly giving themselves to one another in love. Sex is supposed to be all about the other person. That’s why, before our vocabulary started becoming far more crude and truncated, we used to call it “making love.” But watching pornography is the precise opposite of giving.

Pornography is someone sexually consuming another for one-sided pleasure. That person exists only to fulfill his pleasures, his fantasies, his satisfaction.

Sexual cannibalism.

That imagery becomes even more vivid when you consider that over 88% of mainstream porn films contain physical violence against women, 49% of mainstream porn films contain brutal verbal abuse towards women, and much of today’s pornography is simply glorified rape and sexual assault. There is something grotesquely cannibalistic about men arousing themselves to the physical destruction of the feminine on screen. There is something carnivorous about men watching women get violated and degraded for recreation and entertainment.

After all, carnality, cannibalism, carnivore, and carnage all have the same root word: Carnae, or flesh. Our carnality, fleshly lust, is leading directly into sexual cannibalism—and the carnage of the porn industry manifests itself in destructive or destroyed relationships, shattered marriages, twisted minds, and broken porn stars.

Those broken porn stars, of course, are simply collateral damage. They join the industry, often with high hopes, and leave angry and cynical, if not irreparably diseased and suffering from PTSD. But the sex-driven mob bays for more young girls, more flesh to consume and discard. Do we even think, I often wonder, about the humans in the pornography we watch? Does anyone ever wonder how they got there? Why they stay there? How it impacts them?

Rarely, of course. Because if we did, we’d stop watching.

Sexual cannibalism is our culture’s addiction to the flesh of others. But as we know, cannibalism isn’t healthy. And the evidence for this is everywhere.

For example, Covenant Eyes cited in their 2014 statistics a number of conclusions about the impact of pornography reached by the Journal of Adolescent Health:

An exaggerated perception of sexual activity in society 

Diminished trust between intimate couples

The abandonment of the hope of sexual monogamy

Belief that promiscuity is the natural state

Belief that abstinence and sexual inactivity are unhealthy

Cynicism about love or the need for affection between sexual partners

Belief that marriage is sexually confining

Lack of attraction to family and child-raising

Add to that the fact that over 50% of divorce cases now involve one partner being addicted to pornography, and it seems that pornography acts towards marriage and family much as a suicide belt would. One of the more common lies is that pornography can help a marriage—a statement completely belied by every piece of available information. It reminds me of a horrifying but revealing piece published by The Guardian earlier this month, entitled “A letter to my ex-husband, who preferred porn to me:”

Porn ruined you. Ruined us. When people asked, shocked, how I could leave such a funny, clever man, father of my children – “a good earner” as my mother put it – what could I say? I said it was me. My fault. I’d changed. Only it wasn’t me. It was your love of porn that slowly diminished my love and respect for you and destroyed my self-confidence. I couldn’t tell them and I’ve never said it straight to you but you must know, you must remember those conversations. The rows…

We were about six months in when I found your stash and I picked it up smiling – “Boys will be boys” – expecting Penthouse Pets, Readers’ Wives etc but found women so mutilated by beach-ball, supersize-me, fake breasts that their eyes registered pain where their pouts pretended otherwise.

I felt it was mutilation. I wept. You shrugged off my arguments – “They get paid. It’s their choice” – and dismissed my arguments about exploitation as unchecked radical feminism…

When computers came, you got better at hiding it. You could no longer have an orgasm with me and blamed me and childbirth but I now know you had a case of the Prisoner’s Hand.

Then your hints began. Could I wear more makeup? What about those white-tipped nails? Had I ever thought about breast implants? I hadn’t. Wouldn’t. …

There were words for what we did but it was never making love. ... There was never intimacy in what we did and in the end I stopped wanting sex. Not that you wanted it with me anyway.

The letter goes on much longer, a heart-breaking autopsy of a marriage destroyed by pornography. Anyone who has done any anti-porn work has spoken to wives and girlfriends, many of them appalled and upset by what they have found their husbands or boyfriends looking at, and completely at a loss as to what their reaction should be.

There is hope and healing at the end of porn addictions—if those addictions come to an end. I know of many marriages that have weathered the porn plague, and many beautiful, trusting relationships that have rooted pornography out and placed protections in place that keep it at bay. Covenant Eyes has a number of phenomenally helpful e-books addressing virtually every aspect of porn addiction and recovery, which tens of thousands of people have found to be literally life-saving.

We just need to realize that engaging pornography is essentially playing Russian roulette. As philosopher Roger Scruton said, “Those who become addicted to this 'risk-free' form of sex run a risk of another and greater kind. They risk the loss of love, in a world where only love brings happiness."

On Wednesday the Vatican announced that Pope Francis has appointed controversial German Professor John Schellnhuber as an ordinary member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.  Schellnhuber was one of the four presenters of the new encyclical on the environment, Laudato Si’, on Thursday. He is also scheduled to chair a session of a Pontifical Academy for Sciences educational workshop on “Children and Sustainable Development” set for November.

Schellnhuber is the founding Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and Chair of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU). He is considered one of the world’s leading climate scientists, and one of the strongest advocates of the theory that the earth is undergoing catastrophic global warming. Perhaps most famously, he is the father of the “two-degree” tipping point – namely, the idea that if the earth warmed up by two degrees beyond what temperatures were at the beginning of industrialization, in the words of German Environment Minister Norbert Röttgen, "life on our planet, as we know it today, would no longer be possible."

According to the New York Times, in 2009 he told a conference that if the earth’s temperature rose by around five degrees Celsius, the human population would be, in the words of the reporter, “devastated.” “In a very cynical way, it’s a triumph for science because at last we have stabilized something –- namely the estimates for the carrying capacity of the planet, namely below 1 billion people,” he is reported to have said at the time.

Although these comments have been widely misinterpreted to indicate that he believes the current capacity of the Earth is one billion people, in context he is referring to the capacity should the temperature rise five degrees Celsius. Referring to the possibility of a drop in the Earth’s carrying capacity, he himself said, according to the New York Times article, “I think we can do much, much better.” His estimate of the current carrying capacity of the earth is unknown.

Schellnhuber is also known for his advocacy of a one-world government.  In order to avoid his catastrophic predictions for unchecked climate change, Schellnhuber proposes the need for indispensable forms of world governance – or in his own words, a “global democratic society” – to be organized within the framework of the United Nations. Schellnhuber says in his 2013 article “Expanding the Democracy Universe” that “global democracy might be organized around three core activities, namely (i) an Earth Constitution; (ii) a Global Council; and (iii) a Planetary Court.” He then described these three activities as follows:

“... the Earth Constitution would transcend the UN Charter and identify those first principles guiding humanity in its quest for freedom, dignity, security and sustainability;

“- the Global Council would be an assembly of individuals elected directly by all people on Earth, where eligibility should be not constrained by geographical, religious, or cultural quotas; and

“- the Planetary Court would be a transnational legal body open to appeals from everybody, especially with respect to violations of the Earth Constitution.”

In his 1988 study “Geocybernetics: Controlling a Complex Dynamical System Under Uncertainty,” Schellnhuber said countries should relinquish “a good deal of national sovereignty” in favour of “powerful supra-national institutions.” He wrote:

"While the borders of nation states have become almost irrelevant to global economic players (for instance) after the end of the Cold War, human and natural rights are still confined and dominated by thousands of frontiers. This situation can only be overcome by giving up a good deal of national sovereignty and establishing a true regime of global governance. As a prerequisite, the rather symbolic parts and pieces of the UN system must be transformed into powerful supra-national institutions: allons corriger le futur!”

Schellnhuber is also a full member of the Club of Rome, a think-tank that describes itself as "a group of world citizens, sharing a common concern for the future of humanity."

While the organization currently tackles a variety of issues, it continues to do so following the trajectory laid during its foundational event in 1968 in Rome, at which it started an international campaign to reduce the world's population. It claimed that at the time the world's carrying capacity to hold the ever-growing population was already at its limit. The book-length report, Limits of Growth, which was written for the Club of Rome in 1972, was one of the starting points for the worldwide attempt to reduce the population by aggressive methods of promoting birth control and the killing of pre-born children. As recently as 2009, the Club of Rome has reaffirmed that "the global issues which were the focus of the 1972 Report, ‘Limits to Growth’ are even more severe and urgent today."

Schellnhuber has been a prominent counselor to the European Union and to German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He is co-chairman of the German Advisory Council on Global Change (WBGU).

In a May 2014 interview with the musician Pierre Baigorry, Schellnhuber claimed that sometimes politicians have to take citizens to task “with coercion” to overcome their own resistance to change. In that same interview he hoped that President Obama would take the necessary steps to do so. “We need a kind of 'Climate Gandhi,'” Schellnhuber said.

He is also well known for his June 19, 2012 interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, where he suggested politicians need to take their lead on climate change from scientists like himself. “The role of climate science remains to slam the problem-facts on the table and to identify options for appropriate solutions,” he said. “The role of politics is then to mobilize the will of the citizens with the aim of implementing decisions that are based on science.”

Schellnhuber has little patience for those who do not accept his scientific theories and conclusions. “I have made a tiring process of learning. […] After a while [of these tiring exchanges about the scientific matter], I realized in each single case that the man – it was never a woman – was driven by a nearly religious zeal,” he told the German internet portal Zeit online on October 11, 2007. “At the end of the debate, we were turning in circles, and I did not get through with the cool scientific rationality. That is similar to people who do not accept Darwin's evolution theory: 'This theory cannot and may not be true!' Such people you cannot at all convince with the help of the insights of biology.”

African bishops to ‘speak with one voice’ against progressive agenda at Synod

A consultative meeting of African prelates held last week in Accra, Ghana, has culminated in the 45 bishops and 5 cardinals representing episcopal conferences across the continent expressing their intention to present a united determination to defend Church teaching about marriage and family at the upcoming Synod of Bishops on the Family.

At the opening ceremonies of the meeting, Guinean Cardinal Robert Sarah, prefect of the Vatican’s Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments, appealed to the bishops of Africa to remain united and courageous in opposing policies that are detrimental to positive family values.

“I encourage you to speak with clarity and with one credible voice and with filial love of the Church. Be conscious of the mission of the Church; protect the sacredness of marriage which is now being attacked by all forms of ideologies that intend to destroy the family in Africa. Do not be afraid to stress the teaching of the Church on marriage,” said the cardinal.

He urged the bishops to speak out against national and international policies that are inimical to the true value and meaning of marriage and family.

“The bishops,” Cardinal Sarah said, “need to identify themselves with the truth and to get their political leaders on the continent not to endorse laws and policies that go against the sanctity of marriage and family.”

The meeting was organized by the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) on the theme, "The Family in Africa: What Experiences and What Contributions to the XIV Ordinary Assembly of the Synod."

“Africa will speak with one voice at the next Synod – with one voice we will present the challenges and successes of family life in Africa,” SECAM president Archbishop Gabriel Mbilingi of Angola assured the assembled prelates. 

Among the presentations at the meeting, Cardinal D. Berhaneyesus Souraphiel of Ethiopia emphasized the importance and relevance of the voice of Africa at the Synod on the Family.

"Bishops of the continent … have clear and concordant ideas, and can go forward methodically and courageously, with the consciousness of a great mandate: to build up the Church!" said Cardinal Souraphiel.

After the presentations, His Eminence Christian Cardinal Tumi, Archbishop Emeritus of Douala, Cameroon, invited the future Synod Fathers to remain united and not to be overly worried about the false new doctrines that destabilize the Church.

In the same vein, he called for a rejection of the language used by movements that advocate the destruction of the family in order to avoid legitimizing them.

"We must start from faith, affirm it and live it in order to evangelize the cultures in depth. The Church in Africa must feel solidarity with sister churches of the West, who now live a drama on the level of the families that increasingly are being questioned by ideologies that are deadly to the family," said Cardinal Tumi.

In the closing communiqué of the meeting in Accra, the bishops of Africa said that at the upcoming Synod on the Family they would offer "a clear affirmation of family and marriage values ​​according to the Word of God and the doctrine of the Church."

The Synod on the Family will take place at the Vatican from October 4 to 25, 2015.

Father Shenan Boquet: Catholic leaders must reorient the world to God’s plan

In his presentation to the Rome Life Forum, held in Rome from 8th-9th May 2015, Fr Shenan Boquet, President of Human Life International, called for Catholic leadership to return to God’s plan for sex, marriage, and family, which, he suggested, is a precondition for human flourishing.

In his short address he commented on the crisis currently afflicting the Church. “It’s no longer ambiguous,” he said, “things which are the opposite of the truth of Catholic teaching are being said by Church leaders.” He continued by explaining that the truth of the faith is something given by God and entrusted to his shepherds so that they can hand it on unchanged to the people of God.

“We are called to lead people to the fullness of truth that is revealed to us in Jesus Christ, that is entrusted to the Church, entrusted to our shepherds. That truth is not created, but given.”

But the truth of God’s plan is being ignored and even blatantly distorted  by many spiritual leaders today, he said. Catholic leaders are “actually saying the opposite of what Our Lord has revealed.”

We must, he urged, return to the order established by God: “The responsibility of the Church, and all of us in this room, is to reorient the world to that plan.”

Mexican Supreme Court Effectively Legalizes Gay ‘Marriage’

On Friday, June 12, Mexico’s Supreme Court of Justice issued a statement declaring that every State Constitution in Mexico that recognizes marriage as between one man and one woman is unconstitutional.

“Any state law which considers that the purpose of marriage is procreation and/or that defines it as being celebrated between one man and one woman, is unconstitutional,” reads the declaration.

The ruling even said the purpose of marriage is not procreation:

“As the purpose of matrimony is not procreation, there is no justified reason that the matrimonial union be heterosexual, nor that it be stated as between only a man and only a woman. Such a statement turns out to be discriminatory in its mere expression.”

Again:

“To consider that the purpose of marriage is procreation is unsuitable,” the Court stated. “The only constitutional purpose this case law obeys is the protection of family as a social reality.”

“If they’re now legalizing marriage between people of the same sex, later they will legalize marrying dogs,” said Guillermo Trujillo, president for Veracruz’ Evangelical Network, according to Imagen del Golfo.

Bishop Felipe Gallardo, also from Veracruz, said the Supreme Court’s decision was an “aberration.”

The country’s Episcopal Conference has made no statement on the matter.

Whilst no official legislation has been brought forward in parliament to introduce marriage for gay and bisexual couples, the court ruling represents a precedent which will require courts throughout the country to follow suit.

This means that same-sex “marriage” has effectively been legalised throughout Mexico.

Estefanía Vela, a legal scholar at a Mexico City University told the New York Times of the ruling: “Without a doubt, gay marriage is legal everywhere. If a same-sex couple comes along and the code says marriage is between a man and a woman and for the purposes of reproduction, the court says, ‘Ignore it, marriage is for two people'.”

It is now up to couples to petition the courts individually, a process which can last several months and amount to legal bills of up to $1,000.

A number of Latin American countries have allowed same-sex “marriage” in recent years. Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay have already done so, whilst Chile and Ecuador are set to do so in the near future. Uruguay was the second Latin American country to legalize gay “marriage”, in April 2013. The marriage equality law was approved by the Senate 23 votes to 8. The second country to legalize gay “marriage” in 2013 was New Zealand. The bill passed with a wide majority. Seventy votes in favour and 44 against. New Zealand was the first country in the Asia Pacific region to legalize gay “marriage.”

France’s upper house of parliament voted to legalize gay marriage in April 2013. They approved the bill with only small changes. The bill was passed in the lower house in May 2013. France is the fourteenth country to legalize same-sex “marriage.” Then we have Ireland and now Mexico.  

It should be noted that “Pope” Francis’ influence has largely been responsible for some of these new developments. Francis 1 has been “open” and “supportive” of gay priest, gay marriage,  and birth control. Six months into his “papacy”, Francis 1 sent shock waves through the Roman Catholic church with the publication of his remarks that the church had grown “obsessed” with abortion, gay “marriage” and contraception, and that he had chosen not to talk about those issues despite recriminations from critics.

His surprising comments came in a lengthy interview in which he criticized the Catholic Church for “putting dogma before love”, and for “prioritizing moral doctrines over serving the poor and marginalized.”

UK Catholic hermit charged with harassment for trying to convert lesbian witches

Brother Damon Kelly, the 53-year-old Catholic hermit turned moral crusader, plans to plead guilty to a harassment charge on June 19 in a Leicester courtroom.

Kelly has been arrested at least ten times since he began distributing pamphlets denouncing abortion and homosexuality just over a year ago, without ever being charged, let alone convicted.

But last fall, after he put a flyer denouncing several modern moral errors through the door mail slot of two-self-described American, lesbian witches, they followed him down the street and the three set to arguing. Then, a few weeks later, “I decided it was my Christian duty to advise them of the danger that witchcraft posed to their eternal souls,” he told LifeSiteNews, and so he dropped off another pamphlet. This provoked a charge of harassment, which his court-appointed lawyer advised him he stood no chance of beating.

“Basically, if I make two unwelcome advances, I’m guilty, and it doesn’t matter what the content is. I will plead guilty and also mitigating circumstances, that I genuinely had their interests at heart,” Kelly told LifeSiteNews. “I just want to put this behind me.”

After all, Kelly is facing more serious challenges, one of them, ironically, from the Catholic Church. On the legal front, he notes, he has successfully avoided charges because his flyers have condemned the sins but not the sinners. “They’ve never got me on the content, you see.” However, once he is convicted the police will be able to get a “criminal behaviour order” from a judge that depends not on the content of his flyers but on the fact they cause offense.

In fact, Kelly has learned that the Crown plan to bring the Criminal Behaviour Order against him the very instant he pleads guilty to harassment.

Worse, Kelly says, Great Britain is only a few months away from the passage of an anti-terrorism law that will make it easy to convict him for pamphleting once someone complains.  And people always do complain.

But what upsets Kelly more is that his own bishop is kicking out him and two fellow hermits living with him on church property, and has apparently warned other British bishops against them. “He told me once he agreed with my theology but not my methodology.” Bishops, in Kelly’s view, are bureaucrats who relate better with other bureaucrats—i.e., police and prosecutors—than with Christians like him.

“We’ve had some offers, from some nuns in Sweden, a woman in Assisi,” said Kelly, “but nobody in Britain so far unless I stop the pamphleting.” So, while Kelly is ready to go to jail for telling the truth about abortion, homosexuality and other aspects of “the culture of death,” if “that is what God wants,” he is not so sure he can see his little trio of hermits put on the street because of his mission.
